Our History

Founded by Sydney businessman Walter McGrath in 1977, after his son died of a heroin overdose, Odyssey House provides residential and non-residential rehabilitation programs for people with drug and/or alcohol problems. Should you want to look further into our history we have published a book titled: Voyage of Hope which is available for purchase.

The Odyssey House program is based upon a therapeutic community model, where clients overcome their dependence by empowering them through self-help, behavioural change and the ability to integrate, live within and contribute to the community. This can be achieved with a supportive environment, based on mutual respect and responsibility.

Odyssey House NSW has helped more than 35,000 people since opening its doors.
